My name is Guillermo Quijano, and I have photographed weddings throughout Santa Fe for more than 20 years. My experience includes La Fonda on the Plaza, Loretto Chapel, La Posada, Eldorado Hotel, Hacienda Doña Andrea and other Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico venues. I know the city’s historic architecture, changing mountain light, summer weather, busy Plaza conditions and the practical challenges that can affect a wedding-day photography schedule.

Wedding Photography is about backgrounds - about content within the image and about meaning. Santa Fe arguably offers the best backdrops for perfect wedding photography. Romantic, traditional and unique. But that doesn’t come easy - my extensive experience photographing weddings in Santa Fe, New Mexico, helps me know where all the perfect spots are to create amazing photos. Downtown venues such as La Fonda and Loretto, even the Plaza can change dramatically depending on the many interesting things that take place all of the time - whether is Indian Market, or Fiestas or Zozobra, knowing where to take a couple can make a huge difference on the final output of your wedding collection. I live in Santa Fe - photo locations are my specialty!

Well - wedding photos are always best when the light becomes calmer in the last part of the afternoon - if your wedding is outdoors. Having said that, you don’t want to get too close to your reception time and now have everything be rushed because it gets too late. So I suggest a ceremony time of 3:00p in the Summer and 2:00p in the Winter. If your wedding is indoors, you have more lead time since that usually happens in one of Santa Fe’s amazing churches, with ceremonies starting at noon or 1p leaving you much more room to breath.

Absolutely - not only it is possible, it is a must! The plaza offers many amazing architectural backgrounds, columns, adobe walls, alleys and more, not to mention the plaza itself which is very iconic and creates beautiful Santa Fe Style photos. Up the street is the amazing St. Francis Cathedral and Cathedral park, the shops on Plaza street and many other amazing spots. Make sure your photographer is ready!

Santa Fe is one of the world’s favorite tourist destinations for a reason. First of all - the food, you will have plenty of choices to get your green chile fix, experience great New Mexican cousine but also international selections. Santa Fe is one of the top ten cities in the U.S. with the most galleries per capita - and the art is unbelievable. There are also museums, great hiking trails, road trips into the beautiful northern mountains of New Mexico, the famous Taos is a 45 minute drive away, live music and much more. Having a Santa Fe wedding is a gift to your wedding guests!

It certainly can. Santa Fe has some of the cleanest air in the United States, but the city sits at 8000 feet above sea level and the air is thin. It is recommended for anyone to be prepared for the change, especially if you come from coastal cities or if you have a medical condition. It is not a bad idea to have some oxygen handy just in case, or also to arrive a couple of days early and get a little used to it.

Because of it’s high elevation, Santa Fe’s wedding is always about 10 degrees cooler than other cities in the Summer. Average temperature is around 78. In the Summer temps get in the low 89’s but Spring and Fall are arguably - perfect weather. The rains have moved from August to September, the aspens turn in late October to mid November and the flowers bloom in late April. Global warming has made things a little crazy, so it is good to do some further research.
